Hey all, this is Andi. I thought I’d come in here to update everyone on what’s happening… since we’ve been gone forever!

First and foremost, it looks as if a few of us will be taking a break with busy lives and such. Lydia and I, however, will be staying to update you on our favorite books and more! We regret losing those we have come to love, but our schedules have put up conflicts that must be taken care of. To bring you all content, we’ve managed to pull this back together with a long while to discuss the next step to take and the direction we’re moving in. It’s getting rather exciting!

Secondly, there are some new and interesting things happening! We will be having a special guest appearing to entertain and inform us whenever possible. I’m excited for his arrival and his thoughts on everything. As far as content, we’ve decided to make regular postings on things other than books. However! Books are our main agenda, and we will not deter from that. We’ve come up with a new schedule for book reviews/posts and have decided to add in other things to, as the saying goes, “tickle your fancy.”

Look forward to:
* Reviews/Posts on Comics
* Graphic Novel posts
* Film adapted from Novels
* Poetry
* And pretty much everything else dealing with literature

If there are other things that you’re wanting us to cover, send us a word and we’ll definitely see what we can do with it!

We hope you all are as excited as we are about the upcoming “re-launching” of Bookwormers.

By Chuck Klosterman

In this day in age of instant media and social communicating it feels like we as a society should really be burned out after listening to opinion after opinion about the same song or movie or book or whatever, but I don’t when it comes to Chuck Klosterman. He has peened commentaries and original thoughts in numerous magazines and three of his six books showcase this. His latest Eating the Dinosaur is honestly the best yet.

If you haven’t read any of Klosterman’s work, I don’t suggest you start out with Dinosaur, but with Sex, Drugs and Coco Puffs before diving into this quintessential Klosterman masterpiece. It’s somewhat confusing at first because the book has no real plot or theme, but more of a collective of random musings on subjects such as, “How does it feel when journalists have the tables turned and they are the interviewee?” and “Does the recording of Nirvana’s ‘In Utero’ and the mass suicide of the Branch Davidians in Waco have anything in common?”

It’s the randomness and intriguing points he makes that makes Dinosaur really great. Not since his memoir Killing Yourself to Live have I enjoyed reading him so much.

By Aimee Bender

In every story we are looking for a connection; whether it be with the surroundings or the characters or even what those characters are living through. Yet walking through Aimee Bender’s, The Girl in the Flammable Skirt, one may find that they are losing themselves rather quickly. I wanted to explore this story because when I first read it, something about the craziness and directional-less-ness of it all fascinated me. It took me several times to figure out what was going on, but once I found some sort of a connection between life events and what was going on throughout the story, it made it so much more enjoyable to read.

I have always been a fan of the fantastical stories – one’s in which don’t make much sense unless you pull them apart and work with them with your mind, body and hands. I feel that to be a successful writer, you must first be a successful reader, and I believe that by molding stories on your own accord allows you to merge in the original authors mind and get a sense as to what they tried to convey on paper. Aimee Bender’s story definitely allows for molding and play.

If you’re looking for a conventional story, this is not the one for you. However, if you’re willing to put aside the well-known aspects that makes a story and are willing to dive into the unknown and the fantastical, then I suggest picking this up and giving it a go.

Aimee plays a lot with themes in her stories – though instead of finding a cliché way to express isolation, burdens and sexuality, she explores the realms of fantasy and darkness. In The Girl in the Flammable Skirt, she focuses on themes of desire, isolation, burdens, loss, suppressions, passion, sexual desires and deformity of the human essence. Aimee ventures down a broken road of lust and frenzy to express how emotions in the human thrive and tick. Essentially, it is that humans, male or female, express their frustration with rage, loss, connection and freedom through means of isolation or longing to connect. The inner self is truly dying to escape into a world where outer images matter most and Aimee Bender writes to express what our inner selves struggle to inform.

Hello to all of the made-of-awesome people out there who have found this page! If you’re here, it can only mean one thing – you love books.

Well… Good!

It all started with one idea and four random people online who all have a similar quality. These four (Andrea, Lydia, Cassie and Lauren, respectively) decided to start a blog that gave readers of every age a place where they can easily find peer-reviews. However, we’re not the typical review site. We don’t simply spill out information about books – we review everything (And yes we are the nitty gritty type of people who do that, but trust us we’re awesome and you’ll love us for it!).

Short stories, Children’s books, Full-length novels, Picture books, Graphic Novels – pretty much everything goes. We also suggest that if you’re finding that some of your favorite books are not on our upcoming lists, that you write to us and ask us to review them! We’ll be happy to read whatever you ask us to!

Tweet us: @Bkwormers
